T. Dodd, and his sister, Mrs. O. C. Mullen, and Mr. Mullen. The Royal Ambassadors of Wen dell Baptist Church are spending this week at Fruitland' Baptist Camp. Wilbur Underhill, Coun selor, and Bill Britt, Gene Year gin, Chris Underhill, Jimmy Rich ardson and Jim Nowell are among those attending. Mr. and Mrs. Purvis Richardson and son, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Culp and family and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Culp, all of Philadelphia, Pa., are spending a week with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Colegrove and daughter, Lynda, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Phillips and two sons of Mansfield, O., have spent two weeks with Dan Thomas. Mrs. Graham Dean and grand daughter spent last week at Caro lina Beach. They had to return home because Donna had the measles. Mrs. J. H. Sanders, Sr., of Green ville, Ky., is spending two weeks with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sanders, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin Scarbor ough and family of Greenville are spending a week with his mother, Mrs. G. H. Scarborough. Debbie Brothers of Oceana, Va., is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Leslie Alligood. Bill Britt and Mr. and Mrs. Plato Monk were visitors in Lan caster, Pa., last week. Mrs. Sam Denton remains ill at Rex Hospital with uremic pois oning. Leasa and Sherry Harding of Hyattsville, Md., are visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bruch. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Ledford, Joe Lynn and Keith Ledford, left Sunday for Miami, Fla., and other points of interest. They will come back to Mobile, Ala., to get Mrs. Joe Ferrell who has been with her sister-in-law, Miss Myrtie Fer rell, in a a Mobile hospital. Horace Perry underwent an ap pendectomy at Mary Elizabeth Hospital last Sunday and is im proving at his home on 64 high way. Carlo Lynn Hull was operated on last Thursday at Wendell-Zeb ulon Hospital to remove a nickel which she swallowed two weeks ago. Marshall Hinnant had minor surgery for a growth on his aTm last Thursday at Wendell-Zebulon Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Hough of Plymouth spent last week with Mr. Hough s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Joe High. Miss Yvonne Arnold of Fall’s Church, Va., spent last week with her mother, Mrs. Coley Arnold. Mrs. Oscar Griswold was con fined to her home last week by ill ness. Mr. and Mrs. Hank Mazzeo and son, Henry, are visiting Mr. Maz-i zeo’s relatives in New York. George Kannon and Mrs. Mary Hagley of Belmont visited their j father, Isaac Kannon, who is im- j proving at his home in Wendell. Mrs. Edna Haley has moved1 from Raleigh to a house on Lake j Drive in Wendell. Mrs. Wm. Massey of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Estelle Pulley of Roles ville and Mrs. Gus Faison were guests last Monday and Tuesday in Charlotte of Mr. and Mrs. Tom I Caudle. Eddie Kemp Roberts of Green ville, S. C., spent the holidays with his mother, Mrs. Nancy Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. (Jack) Dean and two sons moved to Wilmington where Mr. Dean is employed. P. N. Tunstall is a patient at Rex Hospital. He is the father of William Tunstall and was a former resident of Wendell. Mrs. Louise Smith of Reidsville was the weekend guest of Miss Rachel Raybon. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wheeler and Mrs. Frankie Allen attended a family reunion at Henderson last Sunday. • The Morning Garden Club met last Thursday night at 6:30 at Dol phin’s Restanrant. It was the last meeting of the year and the dinner was in honor of their husbands. The president, Mrs. H. W. Un derhill, presided, and welcomed the guests. Mrs. James T. Clay i wes program chairman and gave the history of the Garden Clubs of N. C. and Wendell. A bounteous dinner was served to 30. The hostesses were Mrs. W. A. Scarborough, Mrs. Mack Creech end Mrs. Tom Bailey. Door prizes were won by Mrs. W. B. Bruch, Mrs. Mack Creech, Mrs. Leo Horton, Mack Creech, Tom Bailey and J. T. Clay. • Mrs. W. W. White entertained her bridge club and guests last Friday night at her home on Dog wood Trail at 8:00. Members play ing were Mrs. George Vaughn, Mrs. H. W. Underhill, Mrs. J. H. Alford, Mrs. J. H. Sanders and Mrs. Charles Rogers. Guests were Mrs. Joe Hicks, Mrs. Jimmie Bat ten and Mrs. Billie Weathers. High for club was Mrs. Sanders, second high, Mrs. J. H. Alford. Guest prize was presented to Mrs. Batten. Blackberry pie ala mode was served at the conclusion of play. • Todd Roberts entertained at a dance at his home on Poole Road last Friday night from 7:30-10:30. Drinks, cookies and potato chips were served to the following guests, Carol Richardson, Ann Ledford, Judy Todd, Melilia Un derhill, Deborah Dean, Jo Ann Nowell, Sandra Raybon, Marshall Hinnant, Don White, Tommy Co iey, Jerry Chamblee, Marshall; Roberts and Marshall Henry. • MRS. EMMA R. EDMONDS Mrs. Emma R. Edmonds died j Friday after a lingering illness at I Rex Hospital. Surviving are two daughters, i Mrs. Malcolm Beddingfield ofi ,' ebulon and Mrs. G. L. Puryearj cf Raleigh, Rt. 5; one son, Henry Edmonds of Knightdale. Funeral services were held Sun day at 3 o’clock from Knightdale Baptist Church. Burial was in Millbrook Cemetery. • Cal Bennetts, 39, of Gwinn, Mich., died on Saturday a.m. after suffering a stroke. He was the hus band of Florine McMillan, daugh ter of Mrs. Ruby T. McMillan, former residents of Wendell. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Todd of Chapel Hill were visiting Mrs. Todd’s sis ter, Mrs. Bennetts, at the time of his death. Mr. Bennetts was a teacher and a musician and was organist at the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife and 3 small children. Mrs. Allen McSwain was host ess to her bridge club and guests at her home Friday night at 8:00. Those playing were Mrs. Betty Jo Pittman, Mrs. Georgia Nell Hinnant, Mrs. Ann Doyle, Mrs. Jo Ann Privette, Mrs. Betty Wil liford, Mrs. Emily Mitchell and Mrs. Nell Duke.
